About the Author:
Subodh Sarkar was born on October 28, 1958, in Krishnanagar, India, into a refugee family. He lost his father when he was in the eighth grade. Sarkar is a professor of English literature and teaches at City College, Kolkata. His poetry has taken him to various countries, including the United States, France, Germany, Greece, Russia, Taiwan, and Istanbul.
He has edited Bhashanagar magazine with his late wife, poet Mallika Sengupta, and has served as the editor of the English journal Indian Literature for the Sahitya Akademi in Delhi. Sarkar has been awarded several prestigious accolades, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (2013), Binodashakti Chattopadhyay Award, and the Bangla Akademi Award.
In 2016, Sarkar was a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Iowa, where he taught and participated in an international writers' workshop alongside poets and writers from 33 countries. He currently resides in Kolkata with his son, Roro. Sarkar was also the first president of the West Bengal Poetry Academy.
