- He attended Baharu High School, Maharaja Kashimbazar School, and Presidency College before studying Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University, though he did not complete his degree.
Literary Career:
- His career in literature began with the publication of his poem Yama in Kobita (edited by Buddhadev Basu) in 1956.
- He was an integral part of the Krittibas literary journal and also started Kobita Saptahiki, a poetry journal that brought new attention to Bengali poetry in the 1950s and 1960s.
