- Shakti Chattopadhyay spent his childhood in Baharu and Bagbazar, where he was raised by his maternal grandparents and uncle after the early loss of his father.
- He attended Baharu High School, Maharaja Kashimbazar School, and Presidency College. He studied Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University, though he did not complete his degree.
Literary Career:
- His literary journey began with the publication of his poem Yama in the journal Kobita, edited by Buddhadev Basu, in 1956.
- Shakti Chattopadhyay was closely associated with the literary magazine Krittibas, and he played a key role in introducing modernism in Bengali poetry.
- He also started Kobita Saptahiki, a weekly poetry journal that sparked a new wave in Bengali poetry.
