About the Book:

This work is a translation of the discourses on Guru-tattva (the concept of the educator) delivered by Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Sarasvati Swami, the Acharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Pitha, during his time in Madras between 1957 and 1959. These teachings, originally published in Tamil in the series Daivattin Kural (Voice of God), are translated into English by R.G.K., a former assistant editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India.

The book discusses the evolution of the Guru tradition, beginning with the sage-gurus and preceptors of ancient times, progressing through the Gurukulas and Pathasalas, and concluding with modern-day schoolteachers and college professors. It emphasizes the importance of value-based education and contrasts it with the current education system, which often prioritizes material success over spiritual and intellectual growth.

About the Author:

Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swami was the 68th Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Pitha. He assumed leadership at a young age and became a guiding light for the Vedic tradition, working to restore it to its former glory. His teachings have influenced many, and his life spanned much of the 20th century, during which he played a crucial role in the spiritual and educational landscape of India.
