About the Book:

This book is a valuable collection of Kritis by master composers, focusing on imparting knowledge about the Self and the Universal Spirit. These compositions, presented with their Sanskrit text and accompanied by English translations, allow readers to grasp their deeper meanings—whether through word-by-word, phrase-wise translations or a concise summary.

It is especially useful for musicians, music-lovers, and music students who wish to explore the philosophical and spiritual messages embedded in the Kritis. The book serves as a bridge between the traditional music compositions and their profound meanings, making it an essential resource for anyone engaged in learning or appreciating this sacred art form.

About the Authors:

Sri Sankaran and his late wife Smt. Parvathi Sankaran were an exceptionally educated couple with expertise in multiple languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Sanskrit, and English. Smt. Parvathi had a deep interest in religious and spiritual studies as well as music. Together, they were part of a four-member team that created an English translation of a scholarly Malayalam commentary on Srimad Narayaneeyam. Their combined intellectual and spiritual pursuits greatly contributed to the preservation and dissemination of classical spiritual and musical knowledge.
