About the Book:
In "Urban Leopards of Jhalana", Soham Chakraborty brings the Indian leopard into the spotlight, an often overlooked species despite being classified as a vulnerable Schedule I species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Through his extensive fieldwork in Jhalana, the first leopard conservation reserve in India, Chakraborty offers a rare and insightful look into the lives of these urban leopards.
Jhalana, located in southern Jaipur, boasts one of the highest densities of leopards in the country. With more than 40 leopards residing in the reserve, Chakraborty provides a deep dive into their behavior, the challenges of urban cohabitation, and their conservation. His accounts of personal encounters with these magnificent creatures highlight the unique dynamics between urban environments and wildlife. The book also contrasts these urban leopards with their counterparts in other regions of India, while debunking various myths associated with the species.
