Synopsis:
This book contains two distinct yet equally captivating novels—"Pretpurush" and "Anupamkatha"—both infused with Joy Goswami’s signature literary brilliance and unique storytelling.
-
"Pretpurush" delves into the eternal truth of human existence. It follows the journey of a poet whose creativity is stifled by his unfulfilled and troubled marital life. Torn by dissatisfaction, he seeks solace through love affairs—not for passion, but as a calculated attempt to leave behind his lineage. His love is merely an act of self-projection, a means to find his own reflection in his offspring. This novel explores the complex and sometimes selfish nature of love, where affection becomes an internalized mirror of one’s own desires.
-
"Anupamkatha" is a poignant tale of love and detachment, the strained relationship between a father and son, hidden selfishness lurking behind ordinary faces, and the dramatic unpredictability of life. The protagonist, Anupam, grows up witnessing his father’s unhappy marriage, only to find himself trapped in a similar fate. His own marriage is devoid of intimacy, and yet, deep within, he carries the memory of Namita Bagchi—his unfulfilled love from college days. One day, past his forties, he unexpectedly comes face-to-face with her, triggering a profound self-discovery and a renewed perspective on life.
Together, these two novels offer a deeply introspective and emotionally charged narrative, exploring the human psyche, relationships, and the paradox of longing and fulfillment.
