Hatchani (The Call) is a novel that weaves a narrative about the intertwined lives of several individuals in a locality named Shalukpukur, a place that grows on the outskirts of the metropolis, Kolkata. The story explores the subtle complexities of ordinary lives that are tinged with the extraordinary in their search for meaning, dreams, and past glories.

The characters of the novel—Dina, Nikha, Sumana, Siddhartha, Devyani, and Chiranjay—represent a cross-section of contemporary society. Their lives, although seemingly ordinary, are in constant flux as they struggle with the invisible force of "Hatchani", or the call. This force urges each one of them in different ways: some wish to return to their past, others wander through the uncertain future, some gamble everything to fulfill their dreams, and yet others venture on a search for something mysterious, even if it means losing themselves in the process.

As the characters face various challenges and decisions, their paths converge at life’s crucial turning points, where they come to realize their true purpose and the direction they must take. In the end, while some find their guiding light, others are consumed by the fire of their own dreams.

Through Hatchani, the author examines the desires, struggles, and existential quests that define the human condition, offering a deep reflection on the choices we make in life and the pursuit of fulfillment.
