Book Overview:
Hajarduyari delves into the complexities of human relationships, particularly the intertwined lives of Shree and Gopen. Shree, formerly known as Shriparna, hails from a prestigious, educated family with a strong academic background. Despite her educational achievements, Shree comes to realize that academic degrees are often nothing more than mere certificates, unused and forgotten in drawers.
After spending eight years in her sophisticated and well-educated in-laws’ house, she decides to leave Kolkata and move to Odisha with her husband Suman, hoping to build a life far away from the expectations of her family. However, life, as it often does, surprises her. In a plot twist reminiscent of a story, Shree finds herself entangled in a new twist of fate when she marries Gopen, a man who will forever change her life. What follows is a delicate exploration of the nature of relationships and the unpredictability of life, as the narrative subtly unveils the struggles and revelations of not just Shree and Gopen, but of many others as well.
Through a close analysis of the relationship between the couple, the novel intertwines themes of societal norms, emotional turbulence, and personal revelations. The story presents Hajarduyari as a rich narrative that reflects on the complexities of human lives, expectations, and the often-unpredictable turns that life takes.
About the Author:
Buddhadeb Guha is one of the most popular and prolific writers in contemporary Bengali literature. A Chartered Accountant by profession, he is also deeply passionate about nature, wildlife, and the jungles. His love for the forests of Eastern India is evident in much of his work. Guha's writing blends his rich life experiences with an intense connection to nature, wildlife, and the human condition.
Although he started hunting at the age of ten, he no longer participates in it, though he continues to explore jungles and wildlife. His experiences in Africa, Europe, USA, Japan, and other parts of the world have further enriched his writing. He believes that writing should involve the heart more than the brain, which is why his works resonate with deep emotional truths.
Guha's debut book, Jangalmahal, established his literary career, followed by numerous novels and short story collections. His novel Madhukari, controversial yet popular, remains a bestseller for years. He has also penned works for children, like Rijudar Shonge Jangale. Guha has received the Ananda Puraskar in 1977 and is widely recognized for his contributions to literature. He is married to Ritu Guha, a renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer, and he himself has a deep fondness for Rabindra Sangeet and Tappa music. Many of his stories and novels have been adapted for television and cinema.
