Book Overview:
Goyenda Golok follows the intriguing journey of Goloknath Mukhopadhyay, a young man from a village near the Meghna River in East Bengal, who comes to Kolkata for a job. He lives in his employer's house and, in the process, becomes involved in solving various crimes. With his keen intellect and gentle demeanor, Golok is not just a bystander but an active participant in solving the mysteries that unfold around him.
In the first story, Golok is drawn into a case where his employer is murdered, and the murderer seems to confess on their own. But something doesn't add up, and Golok begins to unravel the complex web of deceit behind the murder. In the second story, an elderly woman, Haridashi Devi, is killed in a different house in the Bagbazar area. Here, Golok, along with the police officer Jadu Nath, works through the clues to track down the murderer. However, as Golok delves deeper into these cases, it becomes a race against time to catch the perpetrators.
A unique charm of this book lies in the unspoken yet sweet bond between Golok and Konkomala, which adds an emotional layer to the otherwise gripping mystery tales. The stories take place in the early 20th century, during the British Raj and the turbulence surrounding the Bengal Partition. The old-world Kolkata, with its street lanes and mysteries, comes alive in this narrative of detection and intrigue.
