📌 About the Book:

Set in the rural heart of Murshidabad district, specifically in the remote village of Hijal, Final Gaji (Vol. 1) chronicles the life of Khokon Gazi, also known as Final, the ninth and youngest child born into a poor Muslim family. Despite growing up in a family that neglects him, Khokon finds solace in his grandmother, who holds him dear and becomes his emotional anchor in an otherwise cold and indifferent home.

The story unfolds in the dark shadows of illiteracy and superstition that govern the village of Nabugram, where love, passion, and even extramarital affairs exist beneath the surface of rural life. Following the sudden death of his grandmother, Khokon becomes an orphan once again, forced to work for the whims and fancies of the village elders to survive.

As the story develops, Khokon is married off to a woman who had just gone through a divorce due to an affair, and her disappearance during their honeymoon changes the course of Khokon's life. He also marries another divorcee, Rabeya, with whom he has two children, Yusuf and Ruksahana. The children, both brilliant in their academics, manage to break through societal barriers, eventually finding love beyond their religious identity.

However, the peaceful life of Khokon is disrupted as political turmoil and deep-seated conflicts start to plague the village. Amidst this turmoil, Khokon becomes the head of the Hijal region, but an accidental double murder drags both him and his son Yusuf into a criminal case. The novel paints a vivid picture of rural Muslim society in Bengal during the 1960s and 1970s, exploring themes of caste, religion, love, politics, and the generational divides that influence the trajectory of individuals.
