About Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay

Born on 30 March 1899 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay is a towering figure in Bengali literature. His early education took place in Munger and Kolkata, where he attended Vidyasagar College before moving on to Patna University to study law. Despite his legal education, his heart was in writing, and he began his literary career as a poet with his first poetry collection, "Joubanasmaran" in 1325 Bengali Year (1918).

By 1929, Sharadindu began writing professionally, and in 1938, he moved to Bombay (now Mumbai), where he worked as a screenwriter for the film industry. His involvement with cinema continued until 1952, after which he moved to Pune, where he lived until his death on 22 September 1970.

Sharadindu’s interests went beyond literature. He was deeply involved in astrology, writing under the pseudonym Chandrahasa. His contributions to Bengali literature earned him many accolades, including the Rabindra Puraskar and the Sarat Smriti Puraskar.
