Born in 1940, Shekhar Basu is a renowned Bengali author and translator. He holds an M.A. from Calcutta University and has worked with prestigious publications such as Anandabazar Patrika, Hindustan Standard, Business Standard, and Anandamela. Over the years, he transitioned into full-time writing, contributing to both adult and children’s literature.

His first work for children, the story 'Bhagyo Inu Chhilo', was well-received, and his first novel was 'Sonar Biscuit'. However, his debut translation work, Baroti Kishor Classic, cemented his place as an important translator in Bengali literature. He has since written and translated over fifty works, including novels, essays, short stories, and travelogues.

In addition to his literary achievements, Basu has edited several anthologies and contributed to books on Indian literature. His notable works include 'Neta Ji's Wife', a comprehensive biography of Subhas Chandra Bose’s wife, Emily Schenkel, which received recognition. Basu has won eight literary awards for his contributions to literature.
