About Jamdani Sarees:

The name "Jamdani" is derived from two words: "jam" meaning flower and "dani" meaning vase. This beautiful name reflects the floral motifs that embellish these sarees. Jamdani sarees were traditionally made from Karpas cotton grown in the Brahmaputra region but are now also crafted from cotton, cotton-silk, and pure mulberry silk.

The weaving process for Jamdani is a time-consuming and labor-intensive art. Using the discontinuous weft technique, small shuttles of coloured, gold, or silver threads are woven into the fabric. The motifs are meticulously created directly on the loom, with a skilled weaver taking between 8 to 12 months to create an exquisite Jamdani saree.
