About Jamdani
Jamdani sarees, one of the finest traditions of Bengal, are known for their exquisite handwoven patterns and vibrant colours. The name "Jamdani" is derived from the words “jam” (flower) and “dani” (vase), symbolizing the floral motifs that embellish these timeless sarees.
Jamdani weaving, which involves a complex technique of passing coloured, gold, or silver threads through the weft using a discontinuous process, is a labour-intensive craft. Skilled artisans spend up to 8 to 12 months weaving a single saree, ensuring each one is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Originally made from Karpas cotton, Jamdani sarees are now also woven using cotton-silk and pure mulberry silk.
Colour, Texture & Wash Care Information
-
Colour & Texture: The colour and texture of the saree may slightly vary from the photograph due to the handcrafted nature of the product.
-
Care Instructions: Dry clean only to maintain the quality of the fabric and its intricate motifs.
-
Handwoven: Slight irregularities in the yarn, slubs, or uneven yarn contrasts are typical characteristics of handwoven sarees. These minor variations are what make each Jamdani saree unique and add to its charm, distinguishing it from machine-made products.
