About Jamdani
Jamdani is a traditional Bengali handwoven saree known for its intricate, vibrant floral motifs, which have earned it recognition worldwide. The name “Jamdani” comes from the combination of “jam” (flower) and “dani” (vase), symbolizing the beauty of flowers arranged in a vase.
Historically crafted from Karpas cotton, Jamdani sarees are now woven using cotton, cotton-silk, and pure mulberry silk. The weaving technique involves a discontinuous weft process, where skilled weavers use small shuttles of coloured, gold, or silver threads to create the motifs directly on the loom. Due to the complexity of the craft, it can take eight to twelve months for a skilled artisan to complete one exquisite saree.
Colour, Texture & Wash Care Information
-
Colour & Texture: The colour and texture may slightly vary from the photograph due to the handcrafted nature of the saree.
-
Care Instructions: Dry clean only to preserve the quality of the fabric and motifs.
-
Handwoven: Missing yarn, slobs, and uneven yarn contrasts are natural and inherent characteristics of handwoven products, adding to their unique beauty and charm. These small variations are what make Jamdani sarees stand out, giving them an organic and bespoke feel that machine-made products lack.
