Wuthering Heights is the only novel written by the English author Emily Brontë, first published in 1847 under her pen name "Ellis Bell." Set on the desolate West Yorkshire moors, it tells the story of the Earnshaw and Linton families, whose lives become intertwined with that of Heathcliff, a brooding and vengeful foster son. The novel explores intense and turbulent relationships, particularly between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, driven by passion, revenge, and the complexities of love. Influenced by Romanticism and Gothic fiction, Wuthering Heights is known for its dark atmosphere, complex characters, and its exploration of the darker sides of human nature. Initially not well received, the novel later gained recognition as one of the greatest works of English literature. After Emily’s death, her sister Charlotte edited and published a second edition in 1850, ensuring the novel’s lasting legacy.
