The fabric became a sensation in Europe in the 17th century. Today, West Bengal is the largest producer of muslin in India, accounting for nearly 55% of the country’s muslin fabric output. Efforts are underway to revive the production of fine muslin through initiatives like Project Muslin, which supports over 600 families of skilled artisans in regions such as Nadia, Murshidabad, and others.
