About the Book:
Social Movements offers a comprehensive sociological perspective on major social movements in India. This essential text provides an in-depth study of collective actions arising from public dissatisfaction with existing social structures. The book covers a wide spectrum of key movements, including the peasant, Dalit, tribal, women’s, working-class, and environmental movements, offering rich analytical insights into their causes, consequences, and typologies.

Divided into ten well-structured chapters, the book begins by exploring theoretical frameworks and types of social movements. It then moves to analyze how movements act as catalysts of social change, shaped by collective behavior and mass mobilization. The work emphasizes that in every society, movements emerge as a response to systemic inequalities, making them a central feature of the socio-political landscape.

Written in clear academic prose, this book is invaluable for students, scholars, civil society members, and anyone interested in understanding India's dynamic socio-political fabric.
