A child of renowned Bengali poet Sukumar Ray, Satyajit’s literary career began with his English short story "Abstraction" in 1941. His breakthrough as a filmmaker came in 1955 with the release of Pather Panchali, which won international acclaim. As a writer, Ray is well-known for his creation of detective characters such as Feluda and Professor Shonku. He received numerous honors, including the Bharat Ratna and the Legion of Honor, and passed away on 23rd April 1992.
