About the Book
Modernization and Dalit Education delves deep into the role of education in India’s modernization, particularly focusing on Baba Saheb Ambedkar's contributions to Dalit education. Modernization in India was largely shaped by the East India Company’s educational policies, but Ambedkar argued that these policies had failed to uplift the Dalits, a marginalized group in Indian society.
This book explores:
-
Ambedkar's vision of education as a means of empowerment for Dalits
-
The role of public sector promotion in translating democratic values into economic life
-
The marginalization of Dalits in emerging fields of study in higher education
-
The need for industrialization and its connection to Dalit development
-
The importance of parliamentary democracy for the emancipation of Dalits
Ambedkar believed that education should provide skills and opportunities for Dalits to enter modern sectors like industry and administration, which is a central theme of this book. It examines contemporary educational challenges faced by Dalits, such as equality of opportunity and quality of education, while also analyzing the empowerment and marginalization of Dalits in higher education today.
This book is crucial for understanding Ambedkar’s theory of Dalit development and his vision for modernization, as well as its relevance in contemporary India.
