About Nettle Fiber Products:

Nettle is an eco-friendly fibre known for its flexibility and excellent tensile properties. The thread is derived from the Himalayan giant nettle plant, which grows at elevations between 1200-1600 meters. Due to its moisture content, nettle offers excellent insulation, which is why it was used to line soldiers' jackets during World War II.

In Sittong village, Kurseong, West Bengal, two families hand-spin the yarn, while some small quantities are woven in the Doers area. The yarn is developed domestically for both Indian and global markets.

Biswa Bangla sources this yarn from Kurseong and collaborates with local artisans to weave it into products like sarees, bed covers, cushion covers, and Nehru jackets. The fabric is a combination of linen, cotton, and woven nettle, creating a unique texture and quality.
