About the Author
Dr Mani Bhaumik is an Indian-born American physicist. He has a PhD in Quantum Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur—the first student to obtain the degree in the subject. He is the co-inventor of the laser technology that made LASIK eye surgery possible. He has won several awards and recognition for his works, including an honorary DSc for lifetime academic achievement in 1995 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and the Mahatma Gandhi Humanitarian Award in 2005 from the Indian American Heritage Foundation.
