Author's Bio

Satyajit Ray (সত্যজিৎ রায়) was born on May 2, 1921, in North Kolkata, India. He was a globally acclaimed filmmaker, author, and illustrator. Ray was the only son of Sukumar Ray, a noted Bengali writer and illustrator. Ray's film career began with Pather Panchali in 1955, which garnered him international recognition, including awards at the Cannes Film Festival. He is also known for creating the famous characters Feluda and Professor Shanku.

In addition to his films, Satyajit Ray wrote over 60 books, including detective stories, science fiction, and children’s literature. His works have been translated into many languages, and he has received numerous prestigious awards, including India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, and the French Legion of Honor.

Ray passed away on April 23, 1992, leaving behind an indelible legacy in both the world of cinema and literature.
