Author's Bio
Suchitra Bhattacharya (সুচিত্রা ভট্টাচার্য) was born in Bhagalpur on the 25th of Poush, 1356 (January 10, 1950). She spent her childhood in South Kolkata and embarked on her married life and career at the very same time as her college education. After holding several different jobs, she chose to take voluntary retirement from her government officer position.
Her deep connection with literature began in her early childhood, and she began focusing on writing in the late 1970s. Bhattacharya's writing often centers around the lives of women and the emotional and social challenges they face. Her stories also delve deeply into the complex, spiritual side of human relationships.
Suchitra Bhattacharya's most significant work is her novel Kacher Manush (কাছের মানুষ), which is considered her largest and most notable composition. Her accolades include the prestigious Shashwati Sangsha award from Karnataka for her novel Dahon (দহন) and multiple other literary honors such as the Bhubanmohini Medal from Kolkata University, Sharatchandra Literature Award, Dwijendra Lal Award, and Sailajanand Award. She passed away on May 12, 2015, leaving behind a legacy of profound contributions to Bengali literature.
