• Education & Early Life: Bimal Kar was educated at the University of Calcutta, where he completed his graduation. His early life experiences in various towns shaped his outlook on life, providing him with rich material for his writing.

• Career:

  • He started his career with the A.R.P. and then worked in the Munitions Production Depot in Asansol (1943). In 1944, he joined the railways in Kashi.
  • A key part of his literary career was his association with various prestigious publications. He worked as an assistant editor for the ‘Parag’ magazine (1946-1952), followed by roles as a sub-editor in publications like ‘Pashchimbanga’ and ‘Satyajug’.
  • From 1954 to 1982, Bimal Kar was associated with the well-known weekly ‘Desh’ magazine. Later, he became the editor of ‘Shiladitya’ magazine (1982-1984).
