About the Author:

Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay (Born: November 2, 1935) is a celebrated Bengali author whose works appeal to both children and adults.

  • Birthplace: Bikrampur, Dhaka (now in Bangladesh).
  • Childhood: Marked by a nomadic life due to his father’s job in the railways. He lived in various places, including Kolkata, Bihar, North Bengal, East Bengal, and Assam.
  • Education: Attended a missionary school in Cooch Behar and pursued higher studies in Kolkata, completing his B.A. and post-graduation at the University of Calcutta.
  • Career: Started as a schoolteacher and is now a journalist associated with Anandabazar Patrika.

Mukhopadhyay’s debut short story was published in Desh magazine, and his first novel was Ghurnopoka. His first children’s novel, Monojder Adbhut Bari, marked the beginning of his illustrious journey in children’s literature.
