About the Book
Ancient Indian Economic Thought: Relevance for Today provides a deep exploration into the economic ideas embedded in ancient Indian texts such as the Arthasastra, Manusmriti, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and others. The study offers a unique perspective on India's traditional culture, values, and characteristics as expressed through economic thought. With an increasing global focus on indigenous knowledge for sustainable economic development, the book examines the limitations of Western economic theories, especially for developing economies, and highlights the practical wisdom of ancient Indian thought. The volume addresses topics such as agriculture, land use, ecology, craft industries, price policies, taxation, women's property rights, and governance. It is a timely resource for anyone interested in understanding the ancient foundations of economic thought and its contemporary relevance.
