About the Author:
Umaprasad Mukhopadhyay (1902–1997) was a renowned traveler, writer, and one of the finest contributors to Bengali travel literature. Born in Kolkata to Sir Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay and Yogamaya Devi, he was a brilliant scholar, excelling academically across disciplines like English, Fine Arts, and Ancient Indian History. His professional journey included practicing law and later serving as a professor at Kolkata University’s Law College for two decades. His notable works include Gangavataran, Panchakedar, Dudhwa, Kaveri Kahini, and Jaljatra. He remains celebrated for his ability to breathe life into places through his travelogues.
