Description:
Tarpan is a heartfelt memoir by Shaoli Mitra, offering a personal and intimate account of her life. The book delves into her memories, capturing moments from her upbringing in a theatrical family, with both of her parents—Shambhu Mitra and Tripti Mitra—being renowned figures in the Bengali theatre. Growing up in this environment naturally led her to the world of theatre, and this became not only her profession but also her life's calling. The book also reflects on her journey as a playwright, director, and actor, with personal stories and experiences from her years in the theatre world. Tarpan is not just a recollection of her career but also a tribute to the art form and the people who shaped her artistic and personal life.

About the Author:

Shaoli Mitra
Born in 1948 in Kolkata, Shaoli Mitra grew up in a theatrical atmosphere, with her parents, Shambhu Mitra and Tripti Mitra, both being influential figures in the Bengali theatre scene. Her father, Shambhu Mitra, was a prominent theatre personality, and it was under his guidance that Shaoli first stepped onto the stage. In 1983, she founded her own theatre group, Pancham Vaidik, with the production of her play Nathbati Anathbati, which featured both of her parents as founding members. Shaoli's later work, including the play Katha Amritsaman, received much acclaim from audiences. She continued to direct and act in theatre until 2011, after which she focused on reading and performing plays. Apart from her plays, Shaoli has published essays, short stories, and biographies, and her work has been translated into English and Hindi. Her essay collection Tarpan was translated into Hindi as Putri Ka Kathan. Shaoli is currently the President of the West Bengal Bengali Academy and is also editing a collected works edition of her father's writings. She has been honored with awards both in India and internationally for her contributions to theatre and literature.
