About the Author
প্রভাতকুমার মুখোপাধ্যায় (Prabhatkumar Mukhopadhyay) was born on 25th July 1892 in Ranaghat, Nadia. He spent his childhood in Giridih. His early education was disrupted due to his participation in anti-Partition movements, but he later excelled in his entrance examinations.
In 1909, he joined Santiniketan, coming under the affectionate guidance of Rabindranath Tagore. His most significant literary contribution began in 1929 with the writing of Tagore’s biography, which remains a benchmark in Rabindra studies.
Apart from literature, he played a vital role in transforming the Visva-Bharati library into a major knowledge hub and contributed to rural development projects in Santiniketan and surrounding areas during the 1930s and 40s.
His contributions earned him numerous accolades, including:
- Rabindra Puraskar (1957)
- Desikottama (1965) from Visva-Bharati
- Jagattarini Gold Medal, Ananda Puraskar, and Rabindra Bharati’s Rabindra Puraskar
- Honorary Doctorate from Jadavpur University
