For over two decades, Basu has contributed articles on various aspects of Subhas Chandra's life, and this book brings together those writings in a remarkable collection. Known for her precise research and engaging writing style, Krishna Basu offers readers unique insights into events and relationships that shaped the life of this iconic leader.
The book includes intimate narratives, such as the long submarine journey between Netaji and Abid Hassan from Germany to Japan, and discussions about the relationship between Netaji and Hitler. It also explores Netaji's association with the Irish independence movement and his interactions with Eamon de Valera. The book highlights lesser-known aspects of Netaji’s life, such as his relationship with his foreign friend Naomi Fether and Hedi Fulpmiller, as well as the valor and sacrifices of the women soldiers of the Rani of Jhansi Regiment in the Azad Hind movement.
Another captivating part of the book is the exploration of the moments when Rabindranath Tagore supported Netaji during difficult times and expressed concern about his sudden departure from the country. Basu also analyzes the complex relationship between Netaji and Jawaharlal Nehru, filled with both friendship and rivalry.
Through her extensive travels, Krishna Basu explored various locations important to Netaji’s life, including Imphal’s battleground and cities across Europe and East Asia. Her encounters with Netaji’s associates, like Mian Akbar Shah, Colonel Stacey, and Japanese General Fujiwara, are shared with respect and affection in the book.
