About the Author:
Shailjaranjan Majumdar was born on 4th Shrabon, 1307 Bengal Era (1900) in Baham Village, Netrokona, Mymensingh District, Bangladesh. He was a gifted student and excelled in academics, completing his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Calcutta University. Initially set on a legal career, his life took a transformative turn when he was invited to join Shantiniketan in 1932 as a professor of chemistry.
In 1939, he became the head of Sangeet Bhavan at Visva-Bharati University, where he spent many years sharing his profound knowledge of Rabindra Sangeet. Majumdar’s life and work centered around preserving and promoting Rabindranath Tagore’s music, both in its original form and in its pristine execution.
Shailjaranjan Majumdar passed away in 1992, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the field of Rabindra Sangeet.
