About the Author:
Subhas Choudhury was born on July 11, 1935, in Bhojudi, Bihar. He was the son of Narendra Nath Choudhury and Lilabati Devi. An alumnus of Shantiniketan's Sangeet Bhavana, Subhas Choudhury initially began his career as a music teacher before becoming a permanent member of the Visva-Bharati Publishing Department, from where he retired. He was instrumental in establishing numerous music institutions, including the Indira Sangeet Vidyapith. In addition to his teaching career, he was a prominent figure as a curator, organizer, music director, and critic.
He co-edited Rabindra Sangitayan with Suchitra Mitra and published Indira Debi Pramatha Choudhuri Patrabali. His original research work, Geetbitan-er Joggat, added significantly to the field of musicology. For his contributions, he received numerous awards, including the Kalidas Nag Smriti Padak and an honorary D.Lit from Rabindra Bharati University. Subhas Choudhury passed away on June 8, 2012, leaving behind an indelible legacy in the world of music and culture.
