About the Author:
- Sukumar Sen was born in January 1900 in Kolkata.
- He completed his schooling at Burdwan Municipal High English School, earning the Mohini Mohan Mishra Medal in 1917.
- After completing his B.A. in Sanskrit, Bengali, and Mathematics, he earned an M.A. in Comparative Philology from Kolkata University, where he received a Gold Medal.
- He was awarded multiple honors, including the Premchand Raychand Scholarship (1924), the Moit Medal (1926), and the Griffith Memorial Prize, among others.
- From 1930, he worked as a Lecturer at Kolkata University, having previously been an Honorary Lecturer. He earned his Ph.D. in 1937.
- Between 1952-1964, he served as the Head of the Department of Linguistics at Kolkata University.
- Sukumar Sen’s academic contributions were recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Rabindra Puraskar (1963), the Vidyasagar Puraskar (1981), and the Deshikottama title from Visva Bharati University.
- He was also honored with several literary awards, including the Anand Puraskar and the Ramendrasundar Smriti Award from the Bengal Literary Society.
- His body of work spans both Bengali and English, including important books on linguistics and philology.
