Author's Bio
Sunil Gangopadhyay (সুনীল গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়) was born on September 7, 1934, in Faridpur, Bangladesh. He completed his Master's degree from Kolkata University. He began his career through tutoring before moving on to various professions, including working as a departmental editor for a now-defunct daily newspaper and a clerk in a government office. Known for his multifaceted writing, Sunil Gangopadhyay was the founding editor of the literary magazine Krittibas. His first work was a collection of poems, but he later turned to novels, with his first novel Atmaprakash (Self-Manifestation) gaining critical acclaim.
His work in children's literature is equally popular, and he received many prestigious awards, including the Ananda Puraskar and Benkim Puraskar. Sunil was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1985 for his contribution to Bengali literature. He was also known by the pen names Nillohito, Sanatan Pathak, and Nil Upadhyay. He passed away on October 23, 2012.
