Shoven Sanyal was born on March 27, 1940, in Natore, present-day Bangladesh. A retired chief architect from the Public Works Department, he is also a patent-holder for engineering inventions. Sanyal has written extensively on various topics, including engineering and environmental issues, and has presented papers in both Bengali and English at seminars. He has also broadcasted his essays on All India Radio.
As a stamp collector, Sanyal is a prize-winning philatelist, having started his writing career on the subject of postage stamps in 1963 with his first article published in Rabibashari Anandabazar. His passion for philately is evident in his writings, and Dakticketer Arale is his latest work on the subject, continuing his deep exploration of the world of postage stamps.
