Book Summary:

Published on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 86th birth anniversary, this second volume of his collected works includes the unabridged and revised edition of his historically significant book, Bharater Mukti Sangram (The Indian Struggle). This monumental work, which chronicles India’s freedom movement from 1920 to 1942, has been retranslated into clear and fluent Bengali by Suman Chattopadhyay and Sugata Bose to make it more accessible to modern readers.

The first part of Bharater Mukti Sangram (covering 1920-1934) was originally published in 1935 in London, where it received high praise from European intellectuals but was banned in India by the British government. The second part (1935-1942) was written by Netaji in Berlin in 1942 during World War II, and the manuscript was later recovered from his wife after the war. A reprint of the 1935 edition was published in Kolkata in 1948, and the second part was published separately four years later.

This definitive edition in the collected works is meticulously revised and compiled, making it a valuable historical document. Along with this book, this volume also includes:
Editorial reviews & critical analyses from various publications
An exclusive interview where Netaji discusses fascism and communism
Rare documents, letters, speeches, and photographs from Netaji Research Bureau

About the Author:

Subhash Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, India. A brilliant scholar, he completed his BA from Scottish Church College and later studied philosophy at Cambridge University. He passed the Indian Civil Service (ICS) exam in 1920 but resigned to dedicate himself to India’s independence movement. Under the mentorship of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, he became a prominent leader and was elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1938 and 1939. Due to ideological differences with Congress leaders, he formed the Forward Bloc in 1939. In 1941, he escaped from India and sought international support for India's liberation. His formation of the Azad Hind Fauj (INA) and his armed struggle against the British remain some of the most remarkable episodes in Indian history.
