- A brilliant academic, ranked third in West Bengal in the 1974 Higher Secondary Examination.
- Trained in Rabindra Sangeet under her mother Sumitra Sen and the legendary Debabrata Biswas.
- Learned Nazrul Geeti and old Bengali songs from Biman Mukhopadhyay and trained in Indian classical music under Bibhuti Dutta and Purabi Dutta.
