Satyajit Ray, born on May 2, 1921, in North Kolkata to Sukumar Ray and Suprabha Ray, was an eminent Indian filmmaker and writer. He is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Ray’s career began in advertising before he ventured into filmmaking. His first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won international acclaim and marked the beginning of his illustrious career. He received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and was honored with the Bharat Ratna (India's highest civilian award) and the Legion of Honor (France).

Ray also contributed to literature, creating iconic characters like Professor Shanku and Feluda. His written works include science fiction, detective stories, novels, short stories, essays, and screenplays. His works have inspired generations of filmmakers and writers around the world. Ray passed away on April 23, 1992.
