About the Book
The Western concept of human rights is critically examined in this thought-provoking collection of 25 papers. The volume argues that human rights should not only be viewed through the lens of individual or political rights but needs to consider socio-cultural traditions and pluralistic societies. It explores the relationship between development and globalization, emphasizing the environmental and social aspects, particularly concerning the marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
The book covers a wide range of global human rights issues and the impact of development programs, which often result in displacement and the exacerbation of social inequalities. With contributions from scholars around the world, this volume brings a cross-cultural perspective to human rights and offers insightful research on displacement, social unrest, and conflict. It offers a unique look into how development-induced displacement and other socio-political factors intersect with human rights.
The findings in this collection will provide valuable perspectives for scholars and researchers in anthropology, human rights, sociology, political science, and anyone interested in the welfare and development of human populations.
