About Begumpuri Saree
Begumpuri sarees are beautifully handwoven by about 2,000 enterprising weavers and 1,000 ancillary artisans in the Hooghly district. These easy-to-maintain cotton sarees do not require frequent starching. Begumpuri sarees, known for their deep and bright colours, feature a loosely woven coarse structure with a smooth feel. A weaver takes 2-3 days to prepare a Begumpuri saree. Biswa Bangla has introduced new designs and colours using natural dyes to recreate the renowned Begumpuri saree for the contemporary connoisseur.
