About the Book
This book provides detailed studies of eight villages across seven different linguistic areas and five provinces of India. Through in-depth analyses, it explores various aspects of village life, including caste, community, structure, personality, religion, world view, and the social changes influencing these villages. The work highlights Indian villages as critical units within an ancient civilization, offering a unique perspective on peasant culture and societal dynamics. As these villages undergo transformations, they present a valuable field for studying the forces of social change in rural India.
