About the Book
This book delves into the pivotal contributions of French sociologist Émile Durkheim, a key figure in the establishment of sociology as a formal academic discipline. Durkheim's theories have shaped much of modern sociological thought, and this book provides an in-depth examination of his major works, including The Rules of the Sociological Method, The Division of Labor in Society, Suicide, and The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life.
In addition to these foundational texts, the book explores Durkheim’s impact on political sociology through his works Professional Ethics and Civic Morals and Socialism, as well as his contributions to the sociology of education, with texts like Education and Sociology, Moral Education, and The Evolution of Educational Thought.
Durkheim's work is marked by a profound and lasting focus on the relationship between the individual and society, which remains the central theme throughout the chapters of this book. The author's deep engagement with these topics reflects Durkheim's lasting relevance in sociological discussions today.
