Details:
"Race, Racism, and Psychology" offers a comprehensive overview of how psychology has engaged with race and racism issues since the late 19th century. This new edition includes updates to the research from the first edition and introduces brand new chapters, covering topics such as the South African Black Consciousness movement, post-colonial psychology, fears of ‘hybridisation’, French colonial psychiatry, and the complexities of modern language and terms used to discuss race.
This book is essential for anyone studying psychology or interested in the historical intersection of race and psychology. It remains a vital reference tool, both for deeper academic inquiries and for those professionally or personally concerned with the issue of race.
Reviews:
-
Andrew S. Winston, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, University of Guelph, Canada: "Richards' unique synthesis of careful historiography and evaluative commentary will remain one of the most important books on the history of scientific racism."
-
Derek Hook, Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies, Birkbeck College London, UK: "This book is unrivaled in the breadth of its research and the considered detail it affords key characters, locations, and events. It is an invaluable source for anyone with an interest in the discipline."
