About the Book
This book critically examines the position of women in the socio-philosophical texts of "Dharmasastras," analyzing perspectives from both the East and the West. It challenges Western philosophical interpretations and critiques the imperfect understanding of Eastern traditions. Rather than eulogizing the "Dharmasastras," the book provides a candid analysis, questioning their views on women while also contextualizing them within their historical time periods. The work does not uncritically accept the texts but aims to understand the deeper implications of these socio-philosophical ideas.
This book will be valuable to both general readers and scholars in the fields of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Gender Studies.
