About the Book
Social Work Practice: Religio-Philosophical Foundations offers a timely reflection on the evolution and relevance of social work practices in India as the country transitions into the 21st century. The book examines the foundation of social work in India, much of which is influenced by Western ideas, and emphasizes the need for culturally relevant and socially appropriate interventions to address societal problems. The ultimate goal is to build a conflict-free, equal, non-violent, and just society.

This multidisciplinary volume consists of essays from scholars across social work, sociology, and philosophy, organized into three parts. The first part focuses on the religio-philosophical foundation of social work, exploring the connection between religious philosophy and social work perspectives. The second part addresses the professional concerns of social work, education, and practices in the NGO sector in India. The final section delves into key areas of social work practice, including rural reconstruction, age-care policies, female casual laborers, community mental health, and women's development.
