Description
The third edition of Issues in Cultural Tourism Studies provides an essential framework for analyzing the growing complexity of cultural tourism, its globalization, and its application in both existing and emerging tourist destinations worldwide. This updated edition emphasizes the importance of creative tourism strategies that blend localized cultural products with innovative global attractions to differentiate destinations.
The book explores significant topics such as heritage, arts, festivals, indigenous, ethnic, and experiential cultural tourism in both urban and rural settings. Since the second edition, several important developments have taken place in the field, and this revised edition includes:
-
New content on demand and motivation for cultural tourism, sustainable cultural tourism, and ethnic cultural tourism
-
Updated case studies from a broader global perspective
-
A revised framework for global cultural tourism studies, reflecting the latest research, publications, and industry developments
-
New pedagogical features, including questions at the end of case studies and a further reading section to foster critical thinking
A key focus is placed on sustainable and people-centered approaches to cultural tourism planning and development, ensuring local communities benefit from tourism, retain their sense of place, and enhance the tourist experience. This edition is unique in its ability to synthesize the major global issues in cultural tourism and present them in an accessible manner using diverse international case studies.
