About the Book
Sir William Muir’s The Life of Muhammad was first published in 1861 in four volumes and remains a pioneering study of the life of the Prophet Muhammad. Based entirely on orthodox original sources, Muir's work provides a comprehensive exploration of Muhammad's life and the rise of Islam. The book was abridged in 1876, and the third edition, with important revisions, was published in 1894. This present volume is a reprint of that edition.

While many biographies of the Prophet have been written since Muir’s time, his work continues to be a classic in the field, praised for its thoroughness and depth. The reprint is primarily aimed at a Hindu audience to encourage a study and reflection on the doctrine of Islam. Since Islam's beliefs are largely centered around the personality of the Prophet Muhammad, understanding his life also leads to a better understanding of Christianity, which shares much of its monotheistic theology, prophets, and God with Islam.
