About the Book
During the early phases of modern Indian renaissance, the Vedic-Upanisadic phase of Indian culture was hailed as the pinnacle of Indian heritage. However, over time, it was challenged by the rise of atheistic and materialistic philosophies, led by figures like Carvaka and the Buddha, who were perceived as adversaries to the Vedic tradition.
The book examines how, during India’s struggle for independence, the influence of secularism and the political pandering to religious minorities shifted the discourse. It argues that the focus on India's Muslim past, especially during the Khilafat movement and the subsequent partition of the country, led to the creation of a so-called composite, Hindu-Muslim culture. This approach, camouflaged as secularism, led to the communalization of Indian politics, overshadowing the traditional Vedic values that once defined Indian culture.
